Less than a week out from the 55th Annual ATA Conference in Chicago, Mario, Emily, and Devon traveled to Houston, Texas to meet with Ismenia and Magali for our 1st Annual Localingua Team Building Workshop. This was the first time that Devon (Lead Project Manager) and Emily (General Manager) were able to meet both Ismenia (Translation & Marketing Manager) and Magali (Translation Project Manager) face-to-face. Although we work together on a daily basis, we do so remotely, so we all enjoyed this time together immensely.
We ended our afternoon meeting on Friday by doing an exercise which challenges each person to list their top 5 personal values. This segued into a discussion about our professional values and how those values will shape the future of Localingua. Mario, our Managing Director, was particularly struck by the extent to which each of our values align. After wrapping up our work day, we joined our client José Monterrosa of Imagina Communications for dinner at El Big Bad. It was the perfect way to end the day.
On Saturday we spent the day at the Museum of Fine Arts, where we met up with our Houston-based friends Laura and Olesya (who are fellow linguists and graduates of Kent State University’s Institute for Applied Linguistics). We ended our workshop Saturday night, tired but content, as Ismenia smiled, glass in the air, and said, “Hey, how about liking everyone you work with?!” We think that’s part of what sets Localingua apart. We love what we do, and we love collaborating with others who feel the same way.
