International Translation Day 2017
October 2, 2017
International translation day is celebrated every year on September 30th, the feast of St. Jerome who is recognized for his translation of the Bible in Latin. Although it has been celebrated on this date for decades, this year translation day was officially recognized by the U.N., highlighting that translation as a key part of connecting nations.
Translation has been always been a part of human societies, but let’s take a minute to recognize of the skills that a translator has mastered to be a professional in 2017:
Fluency in two or more languages
Excellent writing and reading comprehension skills
Excellent grammar in their working languages
Knowledge and use of specialized translation software, CAT tools
Superb time management
Great customer service, especially in written communication
These are just some of the things that translators have mastered to be successful in today’s industry—one that is complex and intersects with many others in our information age. Translators, translation project managers, and other language experts deserve to be recognized for their achievements and for the contributions they make to global communication on a daily basis. Happy Translation Day 2017!
